The aim in Pre-School is to enable children to develop a creative approach to learning through discovery and investigation. We also aim to prepare children for transition to Big School and have links with many local primary schools in the area as Mrs Alex Clarke, our Pre-School Teacher was until recently Foundation Stage Coordinator and Reception Teacher at an Outstanding local Primary School.
We, at Orchard Day Nursery, believe that the learning process is as, if not more, important than the finished product therefore displays and work in the individual learning journals contain annotations detailing the child’s thoughts, actions and words.
Having been inspired by training at the world renowned Malaguzzi Institute in Reggio Emilio, Italy, planning is child centred with all learning experiences taken directly from the interests and ideas of the children either through group discussions and discoveries or observations of the children throughout the day. Learning experiences are then planned to enable children to explore a concept or idea further through activities linked to all seven areas of the curriculum.
Outdoor learning plays a huge part in the Reggio approach and all children have weekly Forest School sessions in our on-site Forest School lead by qualified and experienced Forest School Leaders. Additionally children spend time in our large nursery garden whenever possible.
We accept government funded places for our 3 and 4 year olds.
